Manson, WA — October 27, 2025 — Communities in Schools of North Central Washington (CISNCW), in partnership with Manson School District, has been awarded a highly competitive 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). This multi-year funding will bring expanded learning opportunities, enrichment, and family engagement programs to Manson students.

The 21st CCLC program is designed to provide safe, high-quality afterschool and summer opportunities that support academic achievement, social-emotional learning, and family well-being. Through this grant, Manson will offer daily academic support in reading, math, and English language development, alongside enrichment opportunities.

“This award is a major investment in our students and families,” said Tabatha Mires, Superintendent of Manson School District. “It ensures that every child has access to academic support, hands-on learning, and caring mentors beyond the school day.”

The timing of this program is especially significant as Manson transitioned to a four-day school week. The 21st CCLC program will fill nearly the entire day on Fridays, offering students a full schedule of engaging, structured learning and enrichment opportunities. This not only helps families manage the new schedule but also ensures that students continue to grow academically and socially on Fridays through creative, project-based experiences.

Key Goals of the Manson 21st CCLC Program Include:

  • Increasing student growth in literacy, math, and English language development.
  • Expanding opportunities for STEAM, recreation, college/career preparation, and leadership development.
  • Supporting student attendance, behavior, and social-emotional learning.
  • Providing wraparound supports and family engagement activities to strengthen the whole family.
  • Building sustainable partnerships to continue programming beyond the grant term.

“This program reflects our community’s commitment to equity and opportunity,” said Emilio Vela, Executive Director of CISNCW. “Together with Manson educators and families, we are creating a model where students feel supported, safe, and inspired to succeed.”

The program will officially launch this fall, serving elementary and secondary students Monday through Thursday after school and nearly full day on Fridays, with additional summer programming. Transportation and meals will be provided to ensure access for all families.
