“I was a senior in high school when I was selected to attend a day-on-the-hill at the State Legislator in California. I wasn’t aware of the term servant leadership at that time, but my fascination with serving my community was already abundantly apparent. This passion luckily never went away and began serving my community in many ways.
I’ve enjoyed learning about and serving in many capacities in the community every single day. The challenge of learning a new area and serving a different stakeholder group is exciting to me. I love learning new things and I am accustomed to engaging fully from the start. Continuing to learn is a challenge and I am looking forward to becoming part of the current team of CIS board members.
Most importantly, I believe in public education. Being the oldest of nine children to a farm-worker household, education provided us the door to the proverbial American dream. At a time when support for students wasn’t a “funded” requirement (i.e SEL, IDEA, etc), teachers still provided the support students needed.
I strongly suggest that transformation of our schools happens by providing educational resources to each-and-every student and requires action on the information we use to make decisions on learning outcomes. Putting information to practice is what will matter. This is why I believe in the mission of CISNCW – to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life
